Our Story

Nomanzi Trade College was initially established in 2016 in Pretoria by Isak van der Schyff, a fully qualified artisan with many years of experience in the plumbing and construction sector. His passion for skills development and training led to the registration of a full-scale electrical and plumbing trade test centre that achieved significant success in Gauteng.

Isak later partnered with Kevin Kirsten, a fully qualified artisan in Cape Town who owns and manages multiple service businesses and other training institutions, to establish the Western Cape branch of Nomanzi Trade College in 2020. Kevin has been active in artisan skills development since 2008, and Nomanzi Trade College Cape Town continues with the noble work of qualifying competent tradespeople to improve industry standards and create opportunities for those aspiring to become certified professionals.

Why must I attend the trade test preparation course?

During the trade test preparation, we follow a step-by-step installation process in a fully equipped workshop while you receive individual attention from qualified artisans. This will help you to:

  • Assess your skills and knowledge of specific installations and identify individual uncertainties based on real work scenarios.
  • Fill your practical skill gaps to meet specific industry and trade test standards.
  • Focus on the practical examination modules of the National Artisan Moderation Body (NAMB) curriculum.
  • Practice and prepare for your trade test in a QCTO-accredited trade test centre.
  • Build your confidence, productivity, problem-solving, and workplace safety awareness in a friendly environment.

What is the duration of the trade test preparation courses?

For both plumbing and electrical students, the preparation course and ARPL test take ten to fifteen workdays, depending on the outcome of the pre-assessment. The final trade test takes two workdays. You will thus need a total of twelve to fifteen workdays to complete your Section 26D Red Seal trade test certificate.
